Vision is one of life’s greatest gifts, yet thousands of economically disadvantaged people continue to suffer from avoidable blindness due to cataracts because they cannot afford treatment. Recognizing this critical need, Rotary Bangalore Ulsoor, in partnership with Ms. Commvault Systems India Ltd., launched a meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to restore sight and transform lives.
Under this initiative, Commvault Systems India Ltd. generously contributed ₹6.00 lakhs to support 300 free cataract surgeries for underprivileged patients from the Ulsoor and Binney Pet communities. The cheque was formally handed over by the Rotary Bangalore Ulsoor team and Commvault officials to Dr. Sundaram Shetty at Globe Eye Foundation, Hoskote, marking the beginning of a life-changing collaboration.
The surgeries will be carried out in phases as patients are identified through eye screening camps organized by Rotary Bangalore Ulsoor. Every beneficiary will receive quality medical care, including diagnosis, cataract surgery, and post-operative follow-up, ensuring complete restoration of vision and improved quality of life.
The impact of this project extends far beyond the operating theatre. Restored eyesight enables elderly individuals to regain their independence, allows breadwinners to return to work, reduces the burden on caregivers, and helps families become more self-reliant. By partnering with an established eye care institution and conducting regular community eye camps, the project ensures that deserving patients continue to receive timely treatment even after the initial funding has been utilized.
This initiative reflects Rotary’s enduring commitment to Service Above Self and demonstrates how collaboration between corporate partners, healthcare institutions, and Rotary can create lasting social impact.
