Rotary Bangalore Ulsoor has taken up a new community-service project: funding a full year of essential medicines for the elderly residents of Hosabelaku Home for the Aged, a shelter run by Vidyaranya (R) in Bangalore East. It is a small, recurring commitment with an outsized impact — keeping eleven of the home’s most vulnerable residents on the chronic medication that keeps them alive and comfortable.
The Need
Eleven residents living with chronic illness
- Cancer — regular medication, monitoring and palliative care
- Cardiac conditions — daily anti-coagulants, beta-blockers and statins
- Tuberculosis — a long-term antibiotic and supportive drug regimen
- Hypertension & diabetes — lifelong anti-hypertensives, anti-diabetics and supplements
- Age-related ailments — osteoporosis, joint pain, respiratory issues, anaemia and neurological conditions
“The monthly medicine bill of approximately ₹12,000 is a significant burden the home struggles to meet — and a lapse in timely medicines directly affects residents who have no other recourse.”
The home runs largely on charity and small grants, and a bill of this size, month after month, is difficult to sustain without a committed partner.
